Translations don’t fade the essence, sometimes. The case in point being “Here There Was Once A Country.” Marilyn Hacker handles Venus Khoury-Ghata’s words with such delicate care. Recreating, retelling, such raw grief, poignancy, of forgotten places and trying to move on somehow, anyhow.
